About Maroon 5 - The Early Years

Originating from Los Angeles in California, Maroon 5 started their career all the way back in the mid 1990s as they formed the band during their high school years.

After their first release of their independant album titled We Like Digging? Maroon 5 were quickly snapped up by recording label - Reprise Records where they went on to release their first label backed album, The Fourth World in 1997.

During their early years Maroon 5 spent the time focussing on creatingtheir Pop Rock sound, fronted by none other than Adam Levine himself and as the members were still in their young years, heading off to college, Maroon 5 parted with Reprise Records to concentrate on their studies.

As 2001 hit, Maroon 5 were back on their game and who knew that these college graduates would now begin their career into the mainstream, where they would stay for many years to come.

In 2002, their lives as they knew them would change - Maroon 5 signed once again to another label and gave to their world their unforgettable album, Songs About Jane which would change the history of music and their career from then on.

Songs About Jane was an instant success as it included some of their biggest and most loved singles to date; Breathe, She Will Be Loved and This Love gained Maroon 5 their adoring fan base that has stuck on with them throughout the decades. The album hit Quadruple Platinum and pushed them into the spotlight, also earning them a Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

With their newly found mainstream success, Maroon 5 hit the big time and became known worldwide for their instantly recognizable unique sound.

Breakthrough & Touring

During the early 2000s, it was pretty hard to find anyone who didn't know who Maroon 5 were, as one of the most popular Pop Rock bands, they began their journey of professional touring.

Backed by John Mayer (a close friend to lead guitarist James Valentine), Maroon 5 reached stardom, John Mayer was blown away by "This Love" and invited the band to join him on his 2003 tour. During this time, Maroon 5's songs were top of the Billboard charts and after the success of their first tour with John Mayer, the band went on to hit the road with the Blues singer and guitarist in 2004.

Maroon 5 spent the next three whole years embarking on their journey around the world, making a stop off in an impressive seventeen countries.

As they started to perform to bigger and bigger crowds and touring along side the likes of; The Rolling Stones, Matchbox Tenty, The Counting Crows plus many many more... Maroon 5's individually released singles from their previous release of Songs About Jane, were climbing the charts.

Maroon 5 hit the Top 20 in the US and the UK with "Harder to Breathe", then made it to number five in the US with "This Love" and the track also made it to number three in the UK and number eight in Australia. "She Will Be Loved" hit the number five spot in the US, UK and reached number one in Australia. And their fourth laid back single, "Sunday Morning" climbed its way into the Top 40 in the US, UK and Australia.

2007 - 2012

After a few solid years of non-stop touring and promoting their first major label album, Songs About Jane, Maroon 5 were more than ready to showcase new music and 2007 saw the release of their second album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long.

As the band drew inspiration from their love of funk music and inspiration from artists such as Prince, Michael Jackson and Talking Heads, the world started to see another side to the band.

Maroon 5 transformed from their Pop infused long songs and gravitated towards a feel good and upbeat genre, which Adam Levine described as "Sexier and Stronger".

Maroon 5's 2007 album became even more popular than their first, hitting the number one biggest selling album on iTunes. This record breaking record featured singles; Billboard's number one - "Makes Me Wonder", "Wake Up Call", "If I Never See Your Face Again" and "Nothing Lasts Forever" - which gave them a TV appearence on the MTV show, The Hills.

With their new dance-pop album, Maroon 5 hit the road, this time performing on a six date club across the US.

The band then went on to tour in twenty eight cities in North America and also made their first collaboration with Rhianna on "If I Never See Your Face Again" which was feaured on her third studio album, Good Girl Gone Bad.

Maroon 5 had a successful couple of years promoting their new funk sound, but it wasn't until 2011 that Maroon 5 truly made their explosion, with their single "Moves Like Jagger." The song came from their 2009 album, Hands All Over which in it's first release didn't include the single.

With a re-release in 2011, Maroon 5 were pushed into the limelight and "Moves Like Jagger" became an international hit, perfect for giving their fan base that feel good "Summer Feeling".

Album Releases 2012 - 2018

With their ever growing popularity of Maroon 5, lead singer Adam Levine had built up a steady reputation with the band and also gained fans just for him as his very own rock superstar. The vocalist became a coach on the popular TV competition, The Voice, during the same time Maroon 5 made their return to the charts with their fourth record, Overexposed.

With a more diverse sound on the album, Overexposed's first single release featured Hiphop artist Wiz Khalifa which the band showcased for the very first time, live on The Voice.

It wasn't long until a fifth album was in the spotlight, just two years after the release of Overexposed, Maroon 5 dropped their record V and transformed the stage and the charts once again with a long stream of successful singles, with; "Maps" "Animals" and "One More Night."

Throughout the years Maroon 5 have always showcased different sides to their musical abilities, whilst always remaining 'Maroon 5' in everything their do, in 2017 they were back with another side to their music, this time featuring an R&B feel on their incredible sixth studio album Red Pill Blues.

Red Pill Blues, inspired by the 1999 movie, The Matrix, hit the number two position on the Billboard charts and included singles; "Don't Wanna Know" "Cold" "What Lovers Do" and "Wait". The re-release of Red Pill Blues featured a special guest feature from Cardi B on "Girls Like You". The song became the longest top 10 run for an impressive thirty three weeks in a row.

2019 - Present

2019 saw the return of many performances for Maroon 5 as they headlined the Super Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia along with rappers Big Boi and Travis Scott. They also took to the stage at Capital's Summertime Ball in the UK and once again impressed their US and UK fans with mind blowing shows.

In the fall of 2019, the rumors began for a new Maroon 5 record to be announced, Maroon 5 released a single titled "Memories" which hit the number two spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became a lead single for their upcoming seventh studio album release.  "It does foreshadow a new album, which we’re currently in the studio working on. But, yeah, we are working on a new record."

With plenty of excitement surrounding their 2019 single and also their upcoming album, Maroon 5 dropped the news of a 2020 tour, however with the Covid-19 pandemic, the tour was rescheduled to 2021.

Also set to be released in 2021 is an exciting documentary film about the band by David Dobkin.

With another single of "Nobody's Love", a worldwide tour in the near future and a brand new documentary about Maroon 5 and their journey together, 2021 is already becoming another oustanding year for the band.

Maroon 5, still as popular, hard working and unstoppable as ever will no doubt be back with even more sensational music and news to follow...
